Objective of the Trip: We will be working with Joaquin Dardon, Tom & Sheila Anderson and the Christian church in Jalapa, Guatemala. We will be using a curriculum called “FriendSpeak” to help the Guatemalan people in the Jalapa community improve their English. A unique aspect about “FriendSpeak” is that people learn English by reading the Bible. They are hearing and processing the Gospel of Jesus Christ and learning the English language at the same time. While in Jalapa we will also be part of a couple church sponsored community outreach events. Depending on the gifting of the team members we may also do some light maintenance work around the church property and install cooking stoves and water filters for Guatemalan families.
Informational Meeting: On January 29, 2017 at 11:45 AM there will be an informational meeting about this trip in Building C in Room C4.

Description of the Trip: Deep in the remote rainforests of Ecuador is a church reaching an indigenous people group called the “Chachi” for Christ. This church was planted and supported directly by the Greenford Christian Church in partnership with Compassion International and Stadia. Our mission will be discipleship training, teacher training, encouraging the church, and ministering to the people living in the area. This will be a great opportunity to build relationships with the children, their parents, and the pastors at the church. We will be spending time with the children by simply hanging out, getting to know their stories, and holding a VBS. We will also be working with and building relationships with the pastors, teachers, mothers and caregivers in the community. We will do discipleship training with the people in the church and spend time getting to know, train and encourage the pastors in the community. In addition, if you sponsor a child in Ecuador, you will have the chance to get to know the child and personally invest in their lives beyond simply writing letters. This trip is very unique due to the remoteness of this people group. Just getting to this area of the world will require several days of travel on planes, busses, and canoes. This trip is not for anyone, but if your idea of a mission trip is adventure at every corner, this is the trip for you.
Notes: Due to the unique location of this trip, there are certain things a person should be able to do to be prepared for the trip. Travelers should be able to swim, be in good to excellent physical condition, and be active on their feet for 10 plus hours per day.
